AUDITIONS and CASTING
Casting for all of the HB shows is done by audition. An audition is when you try out for a part in a show, usually by performing a monologue, song, and/or dance. The fall and spring play size varies depending on the show, but each show generally has between 15-50 actors. In general, 5th and 6th graders are typically cast in ensemble roles where they can learn about being in a production; 7th graders are typically cast in supporting or ensemble roles to continue building performance skills; the main roles are typically reserved for 8th graders who have a history of commitment to drama (including auditioning for plays at HB, attending drama events, and conducting themselves in a respectful and responsible manner in all rehearsals and drama productions). THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE FOR ANY 8TH GRADER. Work ethic is important. I will cast a younger student who works hard over an older student who doesn’t work hard.
