Welcome to the Blues
The blues is the first style of American popular music we will be studying. It was one of the first styles of music that established roots in America. As Willie Dixon, the blues bassist and composer said, "Blues are the roots, and all other musics are the fruits."
Last term, we studied how musicians are influenced. The blues is a style of music that still influences music of today, from folk, to rock, to rap and R&B.
Term Objectives:
1. Understand where and how the Blues originated
2. Write a blues song
3. Understand how the Blues migrated to the rest of the country
4. Understand how the Blues developed into other styles of blues and into other genres
5. Play the 12-bar Blues in the key of C on guitar/ukulele or piano
6. Play the C Blues Scale and develop a riff-based rock song in British Blues Band style.
